Salvation

September 9, 2008

I came across an interesting quote today that I thought explained the process of salvation pretty well.

“Salvation is from our side a choice, from the divine side it is a seizing upon, an apprehending, a conquest by the Most High God. Our “accepting” and “willing” are reactions rather than actions. The right of determination must always remain with God.”  – A.W. Towzer

God is relentless.  He will not be satisfied until He has set our hearts on fire with passionate love for Him.  (Isaiah 62:1)  He wants us captivated by His beauty.  He is on a conquest to apprehend our desires from the pitiful substitutions that are found in this life.  But that pursuit must be met with a “yes”.

This is our glory.  The King of the Universe partnering with us to see salvation burning in us like a fire.  We can’t do God’s part (the saving) and He won’t do our part (the accepting).  We must participate in the manner He has prescribed.  If we choose to sit in ignorance and unbelief, loving our sin more than a relationship with God we will have that as our reward.  But if we have a “yes” in our spirit, His pursuit will result in our righteousness burning as a lamp!

Some have said “yes” in that introductory way, but God is longing for them to say “yes” in their daily lives.  God is more than a heavenly Customs Agent.  He wants to do more than stamp our passport and let us in to heaven.  He wants a people set ablaze with firey love for their Creator.

And for those who haven’t said “yes” yet, know this; He is after your heart.  But He honors your choices, just like He did Adam’s.   Will you choose a firey, burning heart or will you settle for the status quo?

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Rev. 3:21)

“I will rise now and go about the city; in the streets and in the squares I will seek the one I love.” (Song of Solomon 3:2)
